Wally Dunham (04/19/1940 - 06/07/2011) was the second (and shortest tenured) coach in Tuscola football history. He was born on April 19, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC.  Dunham went to the University of North Carolina on a football scholarship in September 1959, but after a successful freshman year, he suffered a career-ending knee injury.  He played briefly for the next two years, but left UNC in his junior year. Taking a break from football, he took a job as sports editor at the Statesville Record and Landmark Newspaper. Dunham soon returned to the sport he loved as an assistant football coach with Wilson Fike High School while a student at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. He left Wilson for his first head coaching position at Tuscola High School where he remained for one season (1970).  In his season at Tuscola, Dunham compiled a 4-4-2 record and a .500 winning percentage.  After the 1970 season, Dunham was asked to resign and moved on to a head coaching stint with Grainger High School in Kinston, NC. He left coaching for a career in business back in Wilson, working with Hennis Freight Lines, then as an administrator with Wilson Technical College. Following his work at the college, Dunham relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC to manage the family hotel business. He ultimately returned to football as a coach and teacher with the school system in the Myrtle Beach area, where he worked until retirement.  Dunham passed away on June 7, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Care Center in Winston-Salem.  A memorial for Dunham was established at the YMCA's Camp Hanes in King, NC to honor his love for the camp and the outdoors.
